Clean Sweep is an independent review and buying-advice site about electric toothbrushes. Our aim is simple: help you choose the right brush for your teeth and your budget, honestly, without hype.
Why Clean Sweep exists
Buying an electric toothbrush is far more confusing than it should be. The market is full of near-identical models with inflated price tags, "smart" features that add cost but not cleaning power, and reviews that read like they were written by the marketing department. We started Clean Sweep to cut through that — to test the brushes that are genuinely available in the UK and tell you plainly which one suits which person, and where each one falls short.
We believe a good review tells you who a product isn't for as clearly as who it is. A £300 flagship is the wrong buy for someone who just wants a clean mouth; a budget brush with no pressure sensor is the wrong buy for someone who brushes too hard. Most of our advice comes down to matching the brush to the person — and we'd rather say that plainly than push you towards the most expensive thing on the page.
Who writes our reviews
Our reviews are written by Hannah Whitmore, a dental-care reviewer who has spent years testing and comparing oral-care products. Hannah buys the brushes, uses them exactly as you would, and judges them on the things that matter in everyday life: how thoroughly they clean, how they feel on the gums, how genuinely useful the features are, and what the replacement heads cost to keep going. The verdicts you read here come from hands-on use, not spec sheets.
To be clear about what we are: Clean Sweep offers consumer product advice, not dental treatment. We're not your dentist, and nothing here replaces a professional opinion on your individual teeth and gums. Where the right answer is "ask your dentist", we say so.
How we stay independent
Clean Sweep is funded by affiliate commissions: when you buy a product through one of our links, we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. That funding lets us keep the site free and keep testing. Crucially, it does not buy a place in our rankings. What we cover — and what we don't
We focus narrowly on electric toothbrushes because that's where we can be genuinely useful. Rather than spreading ourselves across every oral-care gadget, we go deep on the brushes most people actually buy: how they clean, how they feel, which features earn their keep, and how much the heads cost over time. That focus is deliberate. A site that reviews everything tends to review nothing well, and oral care is a category where small, practical details — the cost of a replacement head, the presence of a pressure sensor, the feel of a sonic versus a round head — make the difference between a brush you stick with and one you abandon in a drawer.
We don't sell toothbrushes, we don't offer dental advice tailored to your mouth, and we don't cover treatments like whitening kits or interdental devices in depth, except where they help you make a better brush decision. If an expensive brush isn't the right answer for you, we'll say so plainly rather than steer you towards a product just because we can link to it. Honest guidance sometimes means telling you to spend less.
How we keep our advice current
The electric toothbrush market refreshes constantly. Models are discontinued, replaced or rebadged, prices swing wildly with sales, and a brush that was excellent value last year can be quietly superseded. We revisit our rankings regularly, update prices and availability, and replace brushes that are no longer the best choice for their buyer. When a recommended model is discontinued, we don't leave a dead end — we point you to the closest current alternative and explain why. Our goal is that whenever you read a recommendation here, it reflects what we'd actually buy today.
Who we write for
Most of our readers want the same thing: one good recommendation and a clear explanation of why, without a 5,000-word essay or a wall of affiliate buttons. Some are buying their first electric brush and have no idea where to start; others have sensitive gums and are worried about making things worse; many simply want to know whether the expensive model is really worth it (usually, it isn't).
